uncle william is dad's boss!!

monday, 15 august, 2005 19:15 MAT

i rang home today. whilst chatting with uncle william we realised an enlightening fact. it has dawned on uncle william that he, on certain occasions, might be dad's boss, now that dad is employed by rei. ha! how funnie is that?!?!?

just remember who's better at karate and who's older (and therefore should be held higher in the chain of respect) when you're NOT at work.

why my dad won't blog

saturday, 13 august, 2005 11:05 MAT

Hi, Melster:

I take it that these blogs and picture sites are open to all who wants to snoop. Sharing with family and friends are fine, but if these are open to internet searches, this is where I have concerns with the technology. I'm constantly amazed at what people write when I review LJ entries you and your friends make. Way too much info that can be used by someone else for their gain. If someone can set up an identity theft scenario and be able to link into the history of that person via blogs or whatever, they can fully pass themselves off as you because they know so much about you.

Even a simple posting about the fact that you'll be on a trip because you want your friends to know where you'll be the next few days gives a potential burgler info that you'll be out of town and your house is ripe for breaking into.

I'm just cautious about putting info out into the public domain. Even some of my papers I wrote back at DOE are available when I google me. Those I have no control over. Now Yahoo suppositly has surpassed google in the number of documents it has scanned and have access to. What's next?

D

ok... but i will still.

Sunday hike

Sunday was a beautiful day. We drove to Mt Rainier and hiked up to Panoramic viewpoint on the Skyline trail. . .all the way up, up, up. It was glorious up there. We gawked at the mountain, ate lunch and took in the sunshine. I found out how much sun after I got home and saw "ring around my collar" and "badger eyes". Yikes!! It'll take years to fade. I know 'cuz the tan lines from the last time we hiked up there (2 years ago) is just beginning to fade.

Downhill trek was much faster. It was 5 miles roundtrip.
Enjoy the pics!

my dad's new job

thursday, 4 august, 2005 16:45 MAT

since my dad refuses to become an active contributor to this blog, i guess i gotta post this news.

Well, while eating dinner, the phone rang, and I answered. Kirk said he would like to offer me a job at REI ... so there you have it! Another member of the Chin clan joining REI's dedicated human resources!! So I'll be working as a bike and ski technician. I go in on Saturday to fill out the paperworks and then start orientation on the 13th. So for the next two months, I'll have to juggle the Mariner games into the REI schedule since both jobs are part time. The Mariner season comes to an end by early October - no way they'll make the playoffs this year either.

"what does technician mean?" asks brett.

"someone who fixes and tunes the bikes and skis so that they function properly?" guesses melanie.

i dunno exactly how to answer brett...

yeah for my daddie! i guess we all know what kinds of things we are getting for christmas time this year. hrmm... what could i need... *thinking*
